Fourth of July 2011

We love the Fourth of July up here in Eureka. The kids have so much fun at the races and it's great to see all of the cousins that don't live here. This year it was a little different, Ben's grandpa Summers passed away early in the morning, he had been sick for a while, so even though we'll miss him we're glad that he is no longer suffering.

Here are the kids waiting for the fire truck to come and pick them up. They, of course, are perfectly capable of making their own fun. I'm not sure what they were doing, but at least they were entertained while they were waiting.

All of my kids rode on the fire truck this year, I wasn't sure how Becca would do, but she was perfectly content to ride with all of the other kids, she even let the fireman lift her up without any fuss.

The potato sack race with Gordon, Becca, and Erik. I ended up helping Becca finish the race, maybe next year she'll figure it out.

The three legged race with Gordon and Andrew, and Melinda and Reece. They all did pretty good and they were so proud of the nickels and dimes that they got for racing.

Emma and Jentry also raced together in the three legged race. If Jentry keeps growing this fast she's going to be too big for Emma to race with.

Gordon and McKenna doing the wheelbarrow race together. They also had foot races, a greased pole, tug of war, bobbing for apples, and chickens for the kids to catch. Afterwards they have watermelon and other treats for the kids. This is something that my kids start looking forward to as soon as school lets out for the summer. The very next day we left to go camping with the Grimstead family at Payson Lakes, I somehow forgot my camera, so we won't be able to post about that camping trip unless my wonderful sister-in-laws have any pictures that they would like to send me (hint-hint).
