Operetta 2010

This years Operetta was a lot of fun. We had aliens, detectives, search and rescue reindeer, cookies, and hippy elves. It's always fun to see what Mrs. Kirgan comes up with for the kids.

Melinda's class played the part of the relaxed aliens. These costumes were a bit tricky, but they were really cute on stage. I'm just glad that I didn't have to figure out how to make them, one of the other room mothers tackled that, I just had to follow her instructions.

Emma's class played the detectives that were searching for the missing elf. The only part of this costume that we sewed was the cape. She is starting to get excited for her 6th grade year (the only year they get speaking parts) now that she has seen Andrew perform in a speaking role.

Andrew was Santa this year! Here he is with his friend Bailey as Mrs. Claus. His costume didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, the shirt kept riding up, but he was happy with it. At first he wasn't sure if he wanted to learn lines, but once they got the script to practice for tryouts he got excited. I'm very proud of the time that he put into learning his lines, he really worked hard. He was also very animated and expressive up on stage. The high school drama teacher was impressed enough to tell him afterward that he would like him in his class next year. I'm just very proud of how well he did, I'm still having people tell me what a good job he did.
