Roald Dahl Book Club

We love the book club! This year the kids got to choose one of Roald Dahl's books to read and do a project for. I was surprised at how many books I hadn't heard of. I've always loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and James and the Giant Peach, but I never knew about George's Marvelous Medicine, Danny Champion of the World or The Enormous Crocodile. I was glad to have an excuse to read these and a few others.

Melinda read George's Marvelous Medicine and several of the other books as well. She immediately found the house with George's grandma popping out the top.

Her project was George sculpted out of clay mixing his medicine.

Gordon and I read The Enormous Crocodile together, here he is in the jungle from the book.

We made a crocodile out of boxes and paper mache and daddy helped us paint it. He kept his crocodile for quite a while until it started to fall apart. This was Gordon's first year to participate in the book club and I think he had a lot of fun.

Emma read Matilda, this is actually one she had read before, but she had a hard time deciding which book she wanted to read. I guess it was easier to go with something that she knew she would like. I had a hard time getting her to pose in the chokey, it wasn't until some of the other kids had a turn in it that she would cooperate.

This is Emma's diorama of Matilda hiding the talking bird in the chimney to trick her family. This time I couldn't convince her to be in the picture, what a stinker.

This picture was too sweet to pass up. Neither Andrew or Becca got to be part of the book club this year, but they still came to  watch and to see every one's projects. While I was busy taking pictures Andrew took it upon himself to watch Becca for me, what a good big brother. When I was done this is what I saw.
