Book Club Party 2011

I have to say that the Book Club is one of my favorite new traditions at the elementary school. I think it does a lot to get our kids more excited about reading I hope it is something that they continue doing for a long time.

This year's theme was treasure hunting, and the books were "The Maze of Bones" first book in the 39 clues series and Geronimo Stilton "Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye". Here are Melinda, Andrew and Emma with their tickets waiting for mom to let them go inside. They weren't very happy that I made them pose for a picture.

Emma with her project, it's not a very good picture of it, but she drew pictures from the book on each side of the cube.

Here is Andrew's project, he made most of the bones himself out of salt clay. There is a part in the book where they are in the catacombs beneath Paris. You can't really see it, but the stack of skulls has a number puzzle on it that was one of the clues in the book.

A close up of the maze, it's not as difficult as Andrew wanted it to be, but I could only handle making it so big.

Here is Melinda's project, three pictures from the Geronimo Stilton book. She really enjoys drawing, and does quite a good job.
They had such a fun time that night, they had a treasure hunt with clues to lead them to their prizes, face painting, and a drawing for more books. My kids favorite part, they got to bring home their own timer for timing their home reading and a book light for reading in bed. I haven't let them use those yet, it's already hard enough getting them up for school, but I'm sure they'll get some use out of them eventually.
