Camping 2010, Take Two

Our second camping trip for this year was a bit of an adventure. We're used to being able to just go and find a spot without making reservations, but this year we had to drive for quite a while to find an empty place. We ended up in a little campground called Yellow Pine just east of Kamas. It was a nice little spot and we had a great time with just our little family.

Here are Ben and the kids roasting their hot dogs for dinner. Melinda and Emma both ended up roasting theirs again after they started eating because they didn't get them warmed all the way through the first time. They were too worried about burning them to cook them all the way, we're just lucky that they don't like theirs with anything on them.

We had to drive up the canyon a little way to find a fishing spot. This was just a little lake called Lily Lake, but it wasn't crowded at all and we caught a few, which makes it a lot more fun for the kids. After a little while Emma decided that she just wanted to practice casting, Ben gave her a little coaching and then turned her loose. The next thing I knew she was teaching Melinda how to cast. Andrew also got in some good practice, I think he's about ready to cast for himself.

They really wanted to go swimming, but they settled for just wading. It was actually quite muddy at the very edge, it reminded me of when we used to play in the mud when my grandpa irrigated his garden.

On the way back down from fishing we stopped and went hiking by a series of waterfalls. They were quite pretty and the kids really enjoyed it. The next night we went for a hike as well on a trail just down from our camp a little way. This is something that I want to do more of, I just need to find some kid friendly hikes. I really love being in the outdoors, and I'm glad that my kids all enjoy it too.
