Melinda's Birthday

Melinda had her 6th birthday this last Saturday and I let her have a party with her friends. She decided on a jungle animal theme and we played pin the tail on the lion, feed the monkey (bean bag toss), and animal charades. This was the cake I made, nothing elaborate, but it was fun and Melinda loved it. It was my first time using fondant and it was easier than I expected, I'll probably use it again, but I don't know if it will get any more elaborate than this. We had a pretty good turn out, more than half of the kids we invited came, and they seemed to have fun once we got things rolling. It's funny that most of these kids go to school together every day and they were still shy at first, it must have been the unfamiliar surroundings.

Later that day she got her present from mom and dad, her very own bicycle, though when she'll be able to ride it is anybodies guess. The weather hasn't been horrible lately, but the only place available to ride is the street in front of our house and the overprotective mom in me has mixed feeling about that. She absolutely loved it though, it is exactly what she wanted and I'm sure I'll give in to her request to go riding sooner than I really want to.
