Picky Eaters

I know that most moms claim to have a picky eater or two, but I'm pretty sure that I have most people I know beat hands down. My kids all have very definite likes and dislikes when it comes to food, even the baby who almost completely skipped eating baby food, we finally decided she didn't like the slimy texture or something. What I can't decide is did I inadvertently do this to my kids or do I have really bad luck.
The foods that they can all agree on can probably be counted on one hand; yogurt, granola bars, crackers, etc. Mostly snack foods. Then there is a long and detailed list of things that one child likes, but the others don't, or most of them will eat with the exception of one. It has gotten to the point that I dread fixing dinner most nights because I don't want to hear another " I don't like that! ". Ben is extremely patient with how many times I make pancakes or pizza, just so I don't have to hear any complaints (or at least very few). Of course they don't usually complain where dad can hear, they know he won't tolerate it. I try to get the point across that I'm not going to fix something special for one child just because they don't care for what I'm making, but they still complain and try anyway.
Several times I've picked up books that claim to have recipes that picky eaters will love, but I never dare to buy them, I hate to spend the $15.00 when I doubt that my picky eaters will love them.
On the plus side, Andrew has made progress lately. He has added to his list of acceptable foods: quesadillas, grilled cheese, pizza, and cinnamon toast(this one was big, usually he won't eat any bread, getting him to take the sacrament was a chore). I can only hope that the others will follow suit eventually.
As bad as I make it sound, they all seem to be in good health and they are growing as much as can be expected considering their genes, maybe the problem is mine after all. I've heard a lot about positive thinking lately, I just need to make chanting "they will like their dinner, they will like their dinner" part of my dinner making routine.

Yay! and Hooray! I got your letter today and I'm so happy you wrote. I have been thinking about you a lot lately too. I had even found your phone number on whitepages.com and was determined to call you one night after all the kids were in bed. Alas, I'm always so dead tired after that marathon that I never remembered! Your kids are so cute! I'm so glad you have a blog! I'm going to email you right this minute!
